10 ways how to reclaim 2020 for your business

14/6/2020

Yep – we ALL get it.

2020 sucks… so far. It’s been a real challenge for everyone, businesses and people alike. But, like with any obstacle: we can dwell and whinge, or we get smart and rise above it. It all comes down to taking proactive action.

I personally want to rise, and I want everyone to rise with me and Melotti Media.

So, I’m going to share my 10 suggestions on how to reclaim 2020 in the post-COVID era (that I’m using myself).

Prefer to listen, rather than read? Here's the Podcast summary!

What do you mean, #Reclaim2020?

Ok, so we’re entering the post-COVID era and the new norm, right?

Well, most people are just waiting to see what happens. There’s a lot of holding back and accepting the slow movement. I totally understand why. But, we’re only halfway through the year, which means there’s still lots of time left to not make this year a complete write-off.

So, it’s time to take action, rather than succumb.

Here are 10 ways to help reclaim 2020 for you and your business.

(1) Start with your team

It’s very hard to be motivated to climb your business out of isolation single-handedly. So, begin by speaking with your team, getting them pumped and opening yourself up to their suggestions. The way forward is definitely together.

If you’re a sole trader, you’re probably a little more agile, but you are your own team. So, get yourself excited both as your employee and business owner.

(2) Rejig your strategy and plan

These first few months of 2020 were very unexpected, which means that it’s likely your original plans for this year need a good revision. You may be able to salvage some, scratch others and add some new initiatives.

Doing this will provide you with a much stronger and more relevant “compass” when navigating this period.

(3) Apply for awards

Awards are excellent publicity and a strong PR move. Many are also still going ahead and active right now, so put your business in the running.

Most require a simple submission or some votes – so, use these as a springboard to get in front of people and share a relevant story. Just make sure you have a good award writing copywriter.

(4) Share human moments

Now that restrictions have eased and people can start getting together in small groups again, it’s time to shine a light on something we’ve been missing over the last few months: human moments.

What I mean is, take team photos of you all bonding together again, or perhaps two customers sharing a coffee and a cake. You may celebrate a few staff birthdays that were missed or take some snaps of your first meeting back in the office.

Whatever it is, use your social media to rehumanise the human bond – it’s compelling content and an appealing message.

(5) Reach out to past clients

I don’t just mean the ones from last month. Go through your CRM database or your old Rolodex to find contacts and colleagues who you’ve lost touch with and check-in. Say hi, ask them what they’re doing and how they’re pulling through.

Passion and drive are infectious, and you may rekindle a spark between you that could lead to strengthening these relationships.

For more, see Why you shouldn’t forget about your current clients.

(6) Make upgrades

I understand there is a bit of a financial burden at present and cash flow may be an issue. But if you’re got some wiggle room, perhaps is time for new business cards, a fresh website, new equipment, a new platform you’ve been needing or even a rebrand?

Nothing jolts a business into gear than something exciting and shiny!

(7) Run a specific Marketing campaign

Not just a generic one. Theme it based on the trend right now – for example, a welcome back customers campaign, or a relaunch party. You may even try playing on the post-COVID-19 name or a competition to draw attention.

Use marketing to gain re-engagement right now – you’ll thank yourself later.

(8) Demonstrate your adaptations

People today are going to be a bit nervous going back into public right now. So, take the time to reassure them with the steps you’ve made to keep them safe. This differs from business to business, but perhaps you may show your extra hygienic measures, new screens, staff washing their hands and so on.

It’s just another reassuring message to put out there to get clients coming back in your door.

(9) Proactively connect with your audience

Yes, it sounds like 101, but how are you reconnecting with people? Are you sending them tailored videos discussing what business will be like going forward? Are you assisting them by taking an approach of leadership?

Content is more important than ever right now. Don’t neglect your audience when they’re looking for your brand.

(10) Get help!
