The 5 Ways Content Marketing Is Changing In 2019

Content will continue to be massive in 2019! But it’s evolving fast.

While many businesses have now begun to understand the power of content marketing, they still may be falling behind on some of the newer trends – this will hold them back.

How is your content strategy looking like in 2019?

Here are the things you need to know to get it right this year.

Content marketing is still large and in charge!

Why?

Because our customers’ thirst for information is growing every year and we need to be providing engaging and interesting video, blogs, podcasts and more to pique their interest and – more importantly – earn their attention.

For what purpose?

Once we do this, our brand gets ‘on their radar’ as a real option for purchase when looking for a relevant solution.

And this is changing?

Yep! Human behaviour, technology and the market, in general, are all evolving fast, which means businesses need to as well if we want to remain successful.

Here are the 5 trends that I believe are changing content marketing in 2019, and how to adapt in the best way.

(1) Multi-Channel is compulsory

Look at your customer today.

Or, better yet, look at how you behave as a customer.

  • We all have an abundance of choice and our attention is split.
  • We have Stan and NetFlix at the same time.
  • We have tablets, computers and smartphones all at the same time.
  • The minute we have any downtime, we are on our phones looking up interesting things.
  • There are lots of platforms, apps and websites we all use every day to find interesting information.

As a result, customers are used to finding content this way, which means your business needs to be across as many channels now as possible.

By dedicating resources to being present across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Mix, websites, and so on, your brand has a much better chance of being found at the right time.

Yes, sure – there are platforms that you may find more appropriate for your audience or others which work better. Absolutely! But that doesn’t mean you just neglect the others. Your customer is across many, and they expect you there too.

(2) Multi-Media is also compulsory

Just like you need to be everywhere, your business also needs to try everything too.

Podcasts are a fantastic way to turn your blogs into audible content for people to listen to on the fly. Perhaps give LIVE streaming or Webinars a go to educate your audience.

eBooks and whitepapers may suit your industry niche, and do lots and lots of video! It’s what your customers are looking for.

Whatever you decide, make sure expand your content repertoire into many different media this year to improve your reach and deliver a better experience for your customers.

(3) Fresh and new is best and true!

You need fresh new content that people haven’t seen before.

Using the same titles on the same topics that 100s of businesses have done before and rewriting them just isn’t going to cut it any more.

You’re targeting highly empowered people who know what they want today. This means they’ve already seen everything before, and those topics are not going to get eyeballs or engagement any longer.

Create content and focus your content marketing efforts on new trends and topics that are relevant right now. Perhaps personalise your stories and share unique messages that no one has done before.

All of this will help you get cut through.

(4) Go beyond content too!

In my blogs, The 8 Truths of Content Marketing (You Need To Know) and Is Digital Marketing Making Businesses Lazy?, I point out the importance of going beyond content marketing too.

You can’t just have a team hiding behind closed doors, pumping content out there and hope for the best. You need to be out there, creating real connections. Your material is just a way to offer information and open the door.

Your customers still want a genuine relationship with you – not be treated as a means to an end. So follow up your content with conversation and more personalised value.

This ESPECIALLY includes getting your sales team involved too! In 2019, they absolutely must be a part of your content marketing plan.

(5) Quality Content is still absolutely essential

Stop using average copywriters to create your scripts, your website content, your blogs, whitepapers, eBooks and so on.

People just won’t stand for it anymore. The minute the writing is poor, they leave – and so does their potential.

Hire content creators who can produce top quality pieces that your customer will love. Produce materials that your audience will appreciate and be inspired by. Otherwise, it’s a total waste of time.

We’re worth every dollar – believe me.
