This blog post is just a gentle reminder, this season, to slow down and remember the people (hopefully) closest to us. Just have a read, I promise I will keep the soppiness to a minimum!
With the Christmas period upon us and cheer in the air, it is important to treasure one of the most important factors in our life- our families. Society today is so immersed in the consumer side of Christmas that we can often forget the people that just should not be forgotten. I am talking, not only our immediate relatives, but perhaps the more extended people too. There may be a distant cousin who would appreciate a talk, a bed ridden older grandmother who would value some company beyond all else or even that nephew living abroad and alone for study reasons who would smile at the sign of your skype call.
In a world with social media and large amounts of communication available to almost everyone, there is even less of an excuse to just say a simple "Hi, how are you?" during this season. Perhaps it is the time to bridge the gaps that have been burnt down, quench the fires of recent angered arguments, swallow the pride, and be patient with all of the annoying quirks that inevitably come with our families, to keep in mind the value of companionship and family. After all, it is one of the most basic and essential needs to a human being.
Because, believe me, not even an enemy would wish "loneliness" on you- something to think on this festive season.
Merry Christmas everyone!
